Midsommar

On Thursday we took the train to Almhult to meet up with Ian’s parents on the farm of some family friends.  It’s Midsommar (Midsummer) in Sweden this weekend and there are lots of festivities happening in the small towns surrounding the farm.

Our Swedish hosts have been very kind and generous and took us out on a boat on Lake Bolmen to have the traditional Midsommar champagne breakfast.  We met up with dozens of people on a small island in the lake for drinks and snacks.

Tonight we will go into town to see some more festivities (dancing and singing, I think), and then it’s back to the farm for pickled herring, meatballs, and schnapps.  So far I’m a pretty big fan of Midsommar!
