Europe Travel Adapter

We wanted the lightest travel adapter for covering Europe with minimal tech. We settled on the OREI Grounded Universal 2 in 1 Schuko Plug Adapter

Universal travel adapter charging phone and iPad

Mmm, tasty electrons

We picked this travel adapter because it was cheap, light, compact, reliable, and allowed us to charge two devices at a time. We’ve got a big list of thirsty devices; 2 iPhones, an iPad, 2 kindles, and 2 macbooks.

It’s been the perfect adapter so far, but there are a few caveats:

  • This is not a converter. European voltage is 220, American outlets output 110.  That said, most electronics (including everything I mentioned above) have built in transformers. You only need a converter for certain pieces of “dumb” technology, generally things with motors. Think hair dryers or electric shavers.
  • This is not a truly universal converter, though it does cover all the countries we’re going to. There are a few countries that aren’t compatible with the Type C plug (mostly UK and British Isles). If you’re going to one of those places, a good option is the FosPower FUSE World-Wide Universal AC Adapter. It only provides a single outlet, but includes a built-in USB charger so you can still do two devices at a time. If you want to learn more about plug sizes, visit the world standards page.

I also highly recommend Uniqlo’s airism shirts. They’ve been keeping me dry in the heat.
